Martha Mae Calhoun ("Marty") peacefully passed on from this life on May 23, 2025. Always the life of the party, she is now entertaining friends and family in heaven!

Marty was born in1930 in Los Angeles to Thelma and Frank Pimental and, along with her older sister, Nancy, was raised in Inglewood, CA. She attended Washington High School and graduated in 1948. In 1950, Marty started her career at the Shell Oil Headquarters in downtown L.A. as a receptionist and executive assistant for 12 years.

She then transitioned to a courtroom clerk for the Inglewood and Torrance courthouses.

Marty was a Californian who lived her life between Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Palm Desert, and eventually Balboa Island. She loved the Dodgers, Lakers, University of Arizona athletics, and USC football. She was deeply rooted in service, and for many years dedicated herself to Anne Banning (Assistance League of Southern California), Operation School Bell, The Peninsula Symphony Auxiliary, and USC’s Town and Gown. She was passionate about the arts, was well-traveled, and enjoyed all the beauty of nature and animals.

She was skiing until her early 70s and loved to golf with friends and family. She touched so many lives and maintained many good friendships over the decades. She loved spending time with friends and family, usually hosting large dinner parties, holidays, and sporting-event parties. She never missed a chance to surround herself with people she cared for! Her laugh and beautiful smile were infectious, as was her genuine energy and enthusiasm for friends and life. Marty was a Lutheran and spent time with church and bible study during her years, and was also very proud of her Portuguese heritage.

Marty was especially fond of her family and the time they could share together. Her proudest moment was the birth of her daughter, and for the last 23 years, the light of her life was her two grandsons.

Marty is survived by her daughter, Carre Calhoun Porter, her son-in-law (Brad), and her two grandsons (Trent and Cal). She leaves a legacy with them of love, laughter, smiles, and enthusiasm --- she will be incredibly missed.
