Valentine’s Day is about love, so what better day to celebrate their marriage, asked Elizabeth Munson, still glowing from saying “I do” with her husband of a few moments, Christian.

The couple, who got engaged in November, have a big shindig planned for later this year, but Munson said they decided to go ahead and get married on Valentine’s Day for the anniversary date, but more so because “it just makes our whole marriage a little more personal.”

“The focus gets to be more on ourselves,” she added.

Dozens of couples took advantage of the OC Clerk-Recorder Office’s services on Friday to get married or renew their vows. Knowing there would be a lot of love in the air, Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen extended hours into the evening at all three of the county office’s locations.

“It’s one of those days that is the most romantic in our office,” Nguyen said. “I’m so blessed and honored to be able to perform ceremonies today, my staff and I. This is a special moment for all of the couples.”

“To see the smile on the couples’ faces, that is amazing for me,” he added.

Friday was shaping up to be a rewarding day — and a busy one.

Nguyen said the office had 310 couples with appointments scheduled between the three locations, which also would be taking walk-ins.

The record year remains 2015 with 320 appointments, but a normal day will still see around 120, Nguyen said.
