Three days after landing an agreement from Mavericks assistant God Shammgod to join the Magic staff as an assistant coach, Orlando has received a similar pact from Bucks assistant Joe Prunty.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, Magic coach Jamahl Mosley is adding Prunty as well as Shammgod to his coaching staff.

Prunty is a veteran NBA coach who has served as an interim head coach three times across 25-plus years in the league. By adding Prunty, Mosley brings in an offensive-minded assistant who has a wealth of coaching experience.

Prunty most recently served as an assistant with the Bucks under past coach Adrian Griffin and current coach Doc Rivers. Prunty held an interim role between the two coaches.

That was his second stint in Milwaukee. Prunty previously worked for the Bucks from 2014-18 under coaches Larry Drew and Jason Kidd. When Kidd was fired, Prunty served as the interim coach for the remainder of the 2017-18 season and the Bucks went 21-16 with him at the helm.

Prunty crossed paths with Mosley for three years in Cleveland during the early 2010s when the two were assistant coaches with the Cavaliers.

Mosley made it clear after a second straight first-round exit in the playoffs that Orlando would explore all options to improve his coaching staff.

“The front office said that we’re going to get better, so they brought in players to make us better,” Mosley recently told the Sentinel. “As coaches, we have to continue to evaluate who we are and what we’re doing, and I’m just trying to find ways to continue to make us better, to improve to help these players be put in the best position possible.”

Prunty hails from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree and won three NBA titles as an assistant in San Antonio from 1996-2005. Prunty also advanced to the Finals as an assistant with Dallas in 2006.

Since he entered the league in the late 1990s, Prunty has worked for eight NBA teams, including the Trail Blazers, Nets, Suns and Hawks.

Prunty spent five summers as head coach of Great Britain’s national team from 2013-2017, qualifying for EuroBasket in 2013 and 2017.

Prunty also has high school and college coaching experience in California — coaching four years at the University of San Diego High School, St. Augustine High School and the University of San Diego.
