PALO ALTO >> A Taco Bell was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning in South Palo Alto, police said.
About 12:30 a.m., an employee was alone inside the restaurant at 910 E. Charleston Road and about to close for the night when the suspect entered and confronted him with a handgun, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
The suspect initially demanded money from the registers, which the victim handed over, police said. He then demanded any additional money in the store. The victim told the suspect he would get some from the back, but then ran out a rear door to safety.
Police said the victim reported the robbery to his supervisor, who in turn notified police.
Police did not provide a complete description of the suspect, who was said to be wearing a ski mask.
Following the robbery, the suspect got into a dark-colored sedan and drove off on San Antonio Road toward Highway 101, police said.
There have been no reports of similar armed robberies in the city recently, police said.
