Macomb County was represented in this past weekend’s state swim and dive championships held in Holland at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Romeo’s Alyssa Chambers had the highest individual placements among Macomb County competitors, finishing fifth in the Division 1 200 yard freestyle finals, finishing the race in 1:53.07. Chambers also participated in the Division 1 100 yard freestyle, placing sixth in the state finals with a time of 52.21.
Dakota’s Ariana Heugh placed 10th in the state 1 meter dive, earning a 344.7 score in the finals. Fellow Cougar Ella Threlkeld participated in the state 500 yard freestyle final, placing 16th in Division 1 with a 5:18.98 time.
Paraswimmer Bridget Kelley from Dakota participated in the 100 yard freestyle para swimmer finals, placing third in the state with a 2:48 time.
In Division 1 preliminary action, Romeo’s 200 yard medley relay team of Alyssa Chambers, Giselle Stone, Isabella Greco and Harper Savage finished 19th with a 1:53.64.
Eisenhower’s Natalie Gabriel placed 36th in 200 yard freestyle preliminaries with a 2:01.84.
In the 200 yard IM, Dakota’s Threlkeld placed 21st with a 2:13.02 and Eisenhower’s Caitlin LeBel was 25th with a 2:16.70. LeBel also placed 27th in the 100 yard breaststroke prelims with a 1:09.68.
Stevenson’s Olivia Buford placed 24th in the 50 freestyle preliminaries with a time of 25.11. She also competed in the 100 yard butterfly preliminaries and placed 33rd with a 1:02.85.
In the diving semifinals, Dakota’s Rebecca Plieth placed 18th with a 214.25. Stevenson’s Aneeka Mondal was 25th in the prelims with a 138.65, and Eisenhower’s Sophia Putti was 29th with a 131.95.
Eisenhower’s Natalie Gabriel placed 38th (5:24.47) and Utica’s Ella Sam placed 41st (5:32.47) in the 500 yard freestyle preliminaries.
Rachel Kincher of Chippewa Valley placed 18th in the 100 yard backstroke preliminaries with a time of 1:00.45.
Romeo’s Giselle Stone placed 35th in the 100 yard breaststroke prelims with a 1:10.62.
In overall scores, Romeo placed 19th and Dakota 29th out of 33 schools in the Division 1 finals.
