Good news about Marin people

Recognition: First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael was recertified as an Earth Care Congregation by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Presbyterian Hunger Program through February 2026.

Recognition: “Orion and the Dark,” a film directed by Sean Charmatz, who grew up in Marin, won five Emmys at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, including outstanding animated special, and two Annies at the Annie Awards.

Recognition: Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. won two awards at the 2025 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest: second place for Fennel Blue and third place for TomaRashi in the semi-soft cheese, flavored category.

Recognition: Scott Newman, of Novato, was named the new general manager of the Smith Ranch Homes independent living community in San Rafael. He takes over the position from retiring general manager John Maura, who held the position since 2004.
