‘HALLOWEEN’
R
What it’s about: The 40-year anniversary of the original “Halloween” calls for a sequel, and this time Laurie Strode is prepared to face off with killer Michael Myers.
The kid attractor factor: Teens will be drawn to the horror slasher genre.
Violence: Many brutal and gory deaths at the hands of Michael Myers: stranglings, slashings, shootings, burnings, etc.
Language: Some swearing throughout.
Sexuality: Some teens kissing, making out, references to sex, etc.
Drugs: Teens drinking and smoking marijuana.
Parents advisory: This is too violent for kids but has plenty of slasher horror fun for teens.
‘MID90S’
R
What it’s about: Jonah Hill’s directorial debut follows a group of teen boys hanging out at an LA skate shop in the ’90s.
The kid attractor factor: This is more of an indie flick; kids might be drawn to the cool skater culture.
Violence: Some brutal scraps, falls, splats and beatings. A car wreck.
Language: Swearing and strong language throughout.
Sexuality: A sexual scene with young teens. No graphic nudity, but discussion and reference to sex acts.
Drugs: Marijuana and pills, teen drinking.
Parents advisory: Too mature for younger audiences. Appropriate for teens only.
‘VENOM’
PG-13
What it’s about: The Marvel Comics spider-verse tale of Eddie Brock, a reporter with an alien parasite named Venom. It may be from the comics, but this isn’t a superhero movie — think supervillain.
The kid attractor factor: The comic book origins, the action genre and character will draw kids and teens.
Violence: Some alien fights, motorcycle chases, stabbings, etc.
Language: Some swearing.
Sexuality: A kiss, an implied sex scene (no nudity).
Drugs: None.
Parents advisory: Way too scary for younger kids.
