There are several San Gabriel Valley athletes to keep tabs on this weekend.

One of the big races Saturday night will include South Pasadena’s Abigail Errington and La Cañada’s Maya DeBrouwer in the girls 2-mile invitational. Joining them in the race will be Arcadia junior Charlotte Hopkins, and all three runners have posted strong marks this year.

Errington and DeBrouwer have been two of the top distance runners over the past two years. DeBrouwer leads the SGV in the 1,600 meters. She ran a seasonal-best 4:52.69 on March 29, the fifth-best mark in the CIF Southern Section.

Hopkins has the second-best area mark at 4:53.56, and Errington ran a 4:56.58 a few weeks back at Arroyo.

At the Nike Redondo Track festival, Errington posted the third-best time in the CIF-SS this season in the 3,200, crossing second in 10:26.12. Finishing right behind Errington was DeBrouwer in 10:31.

Arcadia’s Reena Hsieh will be in a 1-mile seeded race Saturday evening.

La Serna senior distance runner Grant Miller will compete Saturday night in the boys 3,200 invitational.

Miller is the SGV’s top performer in the 3,200. He won at the Meet of Champions race at Arroyo, crossing in 9:03.60, which is the ninth-fastest time in California. Miller also posted the second-fastest time in the CIF-SS this season in the 1,600, finishing in 4:08.30 at JSerra on March 29.

Mayfield’s Monika Vargas has been strong in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Vargas ran an impressive time of 14.06 in the 100 hurdles at the Nike Redondo Track festival, which is good for the fifth-fastest time in California this season. Vargas will be in Saturday’s 100 hurdles invitational.

Vargas also will run in the 300 hurdles open race on Saturday along with Arcadia’s Layla Roslan.

Vargas finished second in the 300 hurdles at the The Qualifier at Covina District Field in 44.52. Roslan posted the SGV’s top mark of 44.18 at the Covina Invitational.
