Resident of Santa Clara

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Baras, a beloved family man whose journey began in the modest confines of a one-room house in Greece.

Born into humble beginnings, Steve's life was a testament to perseverance and hard work.

As a young teenager, Steve left his tiny village to seek opportunities in Athens. There, he lived with his uncle and worked tirelessly as a busboy. It was during these formative years that Steve discovered a way to earn a living, laying the foundation for his future as a successful restaurateur.

Steve then moved to Montreal, Canada, where he lived for 25 years. In 1958, he met and married his beloved wife, Mary. Their family grew with the arrival of their first child, Angela, in 1960, and was completed with the birth of their son, Dennis, in 1966. Despite the demanding nature of the restaurant business, Steve cherished every moment spent with his family. He supported both children through their activities, putting them both through college and graduate school, and standing with great pride as they accomplished their achievements.

Steve’s next adventure was moving his family to California, where he became an owner of Mr Steer Steakhouse, a popular restaurant in Santa Clara. He immediately joined St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church volunteering with Ahepa, and becoming a regular fixture during the Greek festivals, helping with cooking, serving and cleaning. He worked hard, and he also knew how to have a good time with everyone.

More joy came his way with the arrival of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved and spoiled with all his heart. Steve leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary; children, Angela (Andrew) and Dennis; grandchildren, Alexa (Michael) and Kris (Cub); and great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kane, siblings, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Steve's dedication and love for family, church and community made his home a cherished gathering place for great food and much laughter. He was ready with a smile, and his laugh lit up aroom. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.

Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his spirit continue to inspire us to pursue our dreams with the same determination and heart that he did.

Per his final wishes, funeral services were private.
