A 27-year-old man was found shot to death on a street outside a Harvey nightclub Monday morning, officials said.

The man, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Larry Matthews, was found dead around 3 a.m. on Dixie Highway at 154th Place, Harvey Police Chief Eddie Winters said.

Police believe the man was shot following a fight in the parking lot of Let’s Playy at 15420 Dixie Highway, just down the street from the Police Department.

Multiple people, including club security officers, are believed to have fired shots during the dispute, police said in a statement. No other injuries were reported.

Winters said those involved in the incident are believed to have been club patrons, but he could not say whether Let’s Playy was open when the shooting happened. Officials were unable to provide a home address for Matthews.

The club is closed temporarily as police investigate. Its owner could not immediately be reached for comment.

The shooting happened just two weeks after Harvey tightened restrictions on how late bars and clubs may stay open.

Many establishments currently sell liquor until at least 2 a.m., while some have obtained “extended hours” licenses that permit them to continue selling until 5 a.m.

Starting Nov. 1, however, city businesses that sell, serve or permit alcohol consumption must close by midnight.

Mayor Christopher Clark said he would wait until all the facts were in before assessing blame for Monday’s shooting but added the early-morning incident illustrated why he wanted to limit the hours of operations for liquor-serving establishments.
