One man died and two others were injured after a van collided with them while they were crossing a South Pasadena intersection on Wednesday.

The crash occurred just before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Marengo Avenue and Maple Street, according to Sgt. Spencer Louie of the South Pasadena Police Department. Officers determined that the driver of a Toyota Sienna van was heading north on Marengo Avenue when it entered the intersection and failed to stop at the stop sign.

A man and two women were struck while crossing the intersection, and all three were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Marengo Avenue was closed between Huntington Drive and Alhambra Road for several hours Wednesday night while authorities conducted their investigation.

The man later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Information on the victim was not available pending notification of family.

The driver of the van remained at the scene, Louie said. It was not known on Thursday whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash should contact Officer Jeff Holland at 626-403-7270.
