Los Gatos basketball player Nicole Steiner is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week and Washington-Fremont basketball player Gianni Clark is the boys athlete of the week for Dec. 30-Jan. 4.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Steiner finished with 43.82% of the vote. Oakland Tech basketball player Terri’A Russell took second with 37.45%.
In the boys poll, Clark finished with 40.54% of the vote. Amador Valley basketball player Jaylen Smith took second and Branham basketball player Cole Taylor was third.
Steiner, a senior, recorded the first triple-double in Los Gatos girls basketball program history, scoring 16 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing 10 assists as the Wildcats beat Milpitas 61-29 to open league play.
Clark made 11 of his 19 field-goal attempts and totaled 25 points to lead Washington to a 64-45 win over American.
