San Jose
Judy Call, a lifetime resident of Willow Glen, passed away in her beloved home surrounded by the loving thoughts and prayers of family, friends, and dear neighbors.
A graduate of Willow Glen Elementary, Edwin Markham Jr. High, and Willow Glen High School, she also attended San Jose City College and San Jose State. Like many who grew up in the Santa Clara Valley, Judy worked cutting ‘cots as ateen. Later, she went on to work at IBM and then FMC, where her division, Engineered Systems Division (ESD), was sold and became a separate company, ESD. She finished her career at Litton Applied Technology. She treasured and delighted in friendships dating back to kindergarten as well as longtime cherished friends made while working. She thoroughly enjoyed Willow Glen High and ESD reunions.
Judy is described by those who knew her best as a beautiful soul who was brave, resilient, classy, and a very dear friend who shared many good times. She was a woman of style with a ready smile. Dave Wilson, her childhood friend from the neighborhood, credited her with helping him discover a lifetime love of reading because she so often wanted to go to the library when they were kids. Judy was known for riding her exercycle 6 miles each morning and almost always had a beloved dog in her home. She loved Christmas and was able to celebrate nearly every Christmas in her childhood home.
One of her most treasured memories was of Thanksgiving holidays as a child when her seven first cousins (and their parents) would all come over to join Judy and her sister, JoAnne, playing all over the neighborhood, sharing in festive meals, and joyously celebrating into the night. These boisterous gatherings were so enjoyed by all that they became woven into family lore and were fondly recounted through the years.
In 2015, she met Bruce Augason, and their years together were among her very best, as seen by her smile whenever she was beside him. Together, the couple enjoyed day trips (especially to Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay), a trip to Ireland with Carey, dining out, watching the 49ers and Warriors, backyard visits, and family gatherings.
Pre-deceased by her dear partner, Bruce Augason; her parents, William E. Harris and Edith Baker Lacey; her sister, JoAnne Harris Ansok; and her nephew, Greg Ansok.
She is survived by daughter, Edith Carey; brother-in-law, Donald Ansok; nephews, Gary (Ellen) Ansok, Scott (Rhonda) Ansok, and Jon (Diane) Ansok; great-nephew, Chase (Karina) Ansok, and great-great niece, Cecilia. Also especially dear to her, cousins Suzie (Mike) Dehaas, her birthday-sake, Emily (Arturo) Dehaas, and littlest cousin, Lincoln.
Rather than a formal gathering at this time, the family invites you to remember Judy in your own way, perhaps with a glass of wine, over a plate of delicious nachos (one of her favorites), avisit to your library, or akind deed.
