The battle for the Bay Counties League West regular-season crown will go down to the wire, as San Domenico and University are tied for first place with one league game to play. The two powerhouses split their regular-season series.

San Domenico beat local rival Marin Academy, 71-41, on Friday night. The Panthers (18-6, 7-2 BCL West) led by 16 points after the first quarter. Gavin Early poured in 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers, while Kris Jakstas hit three 3-pointers in the second half to finish with 18 points. Irakli Jokhadze played solid defense and distributed 10 assists.

San Domenico is scheduled to host third-place team Lick-Wilmerding on Monday..

Marin Academy (9-15, 1-7) can help San Domenico, when the Wildcats host University in Monday’s regular-season finale.

Marin Academy will host the Bay Counties League-West boys and girls semifinals on Wednesday. The BCL finals shift to Marin Catholic on Saturday, with the boys game at 2 p.m. and the girls final at 4 p.m.

• As the dust settles from Thursday night’s MCAL slate, the seedings and pairings for next week’s league tournament come into focus. Redwood’s 77-61 victory over Archie Williams secures the top seed for the Giants (17-6, 7-1 MCAL), with The Branson School as the second seed (16-9, 6-2). The top two seeds have first-round byes. The rest of the playoff field, in order is No. 3 Marin Catholic, No. 4 Archie Williams, No. 5 San Rafael and No. 6 Terra Linda. The Bulldogs will face host Archie Williams in Monday’s opener, and Marin Catholic will host Terra Linda.

• Marin Catholic celebrated Senior Night on Thursday with a 67-49 victory over Tam. Jake Ryan led the Wildcats with 18 points and four rebounds, while Jack Herman brought 11 points and five rebounds, and Theo Pontes added nine points. Marin Catholic (13-13, 6-2 MCAL) got a solid night from Joe Hammond with eight points, six assists and five steals. Sam Newmeyer led Tam (4-17, 1-7) with 14 points.

• Gio Brovelli poured in 24 points and Will Healy scored 10 points and collected 15 rebounds as San Rafael won the basketball Bell Game at Terra Linda, 53-51, on Thursday. San Rafael was on the outside looking in at the playoff picture to start the week, but wins over San Marin and Terra Linda lift the Bulldogs (17-8, 4-4) to the fifth seed in the MCAL playoffs. Terra Linda (16-9, 4-4) has the sixth seed.

Brovelli spurred the Bulldogs to an early lead, but the Trojans chipped away to make it a one-point game with 90 seconds left to play. A bucket by Healy and free throws by Brovelli sealed the win for San Rafael. Terra Linda was led by Bennett Keyser with 15 points and Chase Addleman with 13.

• San Marin wrapped up league play on a high note with a 54-41 victory Thursday over crosstown rival Novato (6-18, 0-8). The Mustangs (13-12, 3-5) have a non-league home game against Petaluma on Saturday.

Girls basketball

Amelia Thomas celebrated hitting the 1,000-point career mark as Marin Academy edged past San Domenico, 49-46, on Friday. Thomas finished with eight points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats (15-10, 5-5 BCL West), who enter the league playoffs with the fourth seed.

Navah Higuera-Bailey led the Wildcats with 17 points off the bench, while freshman Penelope Lee had 14 points and five assists. Sterling Colpitts pulled down 10 rebounds for Marin Academy.

Carly Amborn was held to eight points against a solid defensive game from Alexia Schwaegler, who had five steals. The Panthers (12-12, 6-3) are scheduled to play non-league foe Pinewood on Saturday, then host Lick-Wilmerding on Monday in a game that was postponed by the recent storm.

• Redwood and Marin Catholic locked up the top two seeds for the MCAL playoffs. San Marin holds the third seed and is set to host No. 6 Archie Williams in Monday’s first round. No. 4 Tam will host No. 5 Branson. San Marin High is easing toward the postseason with Thursday’s 38-15 victory over rival Novato. The Mustangs (20-6, 6-2 MCAL), who have won three games in a row.

Eleanna Schram had 12 points for the Mustangs, who also got nine points from Brianna Nottingham and six from Delaney Butler. Claire Hannan led the Hornets (13-12, 2-6) with nine points and eight rebounds in Thursday’s regular season finale.

• Marin Catholic beat Tam, 56-40, Thursday, behind 20 points from Izzy McFadden and Cece Biernat added 11. Jocelyn Gigounas had seven points for and Wildcats (16-10, 7-1 MCAL), who will receive a first-round bye in the league playoffs as the second seed. The Red-tailed Hawks (10-12, 4-4) hold on to the fourth seed in a head-to-head tiebreaker with The Branson School.

• Drew Schultz led Redwood with 12 points and Brooke Denler added 11 as the Giants capped an undefeated league campaign with Thursday’s 55-41 victory over Archie Williams. The top-seeded Giants (18-8, 8-0 MCAL) have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Reese Patton scored a team-high 13 points for the Peregrine Falcons (15-10, 3-5), who have the sixth seed.

• Kayla Ferraro scored 14 points to lead host Terra Linda past crosstown rival San Rafael, 37-17, on Thursday. Emily Erikson and Ryan Jefferys added six points each for the Trojans (6-19, 2-6).

Roselyn Mazariegos led the Bulldogs (3-17, 0-8) with six points and Jessica Vara added three.
