


Lauren Fong led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and came around to score the winning run on an error as the San Marin High softball team came away with a 6-5 win against Windsor on Monday night.
Leah Cronin had three hits, three runs, and an RBI out of the leadoff spot for the Mustangs (1-0). Fong, Taylor Testa, Amanda Postel, and Arianna Mendoza had two hits apiece. Mendoza and Cronin had triples for San Marin.
Testa pitched all seven innings with six hits and five runs — two earned. Testa struck out 10 and walked five.
• Hailey Carlton had three hits and Kait Christensen had three RBIs as Redwood fell 7-6 on the road against Bishop O’Dowd on Monday. The Giants (1-2) led 4-1 in the top of the second but Bishop O’Dowd came back with two in the third and three in the fourth. Ava Brown had two hits and three walks, scoring four runs from the leadoff spot.
• Georgiana Castro had two hits and two steals as Novato fell 15-5 against Windsor in six innings Tuesday. Ava Cook went 2 for 2 for the Hornets.
• Paige Murphy allowed one hit while striking out 10 in five innings as Archie Williams mercy-ruled Santa Rosa 19-0 on Tuesday. Kennedy Dunsing led the way with three hits and four RBIs. Lila James had three RBIs and scored twice.
• Thomara Drummer allowed one hit and struck out 15 over seven innings as San Rafael defeated Las Lomas 5-2 on Tuesday. Drummer allowed two runs, both unearned. Sophia Everett had three of San Rafael’s seven hits, driving in two runs and scoring three times.
• Eleanor Johnson allowed one hit across five innings as Terra Linda mercy-ruled Campolindo 14-0 on Tuesday.
• Tam also tossed a one-hitter in a five-inning, 13-0 win against Miramonte on Tuesday.
Prep baseball
Senior Sean McGrath struck out 12 batters and walked one in a complete game shutout as San Marin blanked host Archie Williams 8-0 on Tuesday.
Mustangs junior Matt Baldino homered twice to account for six RBIs, and Tyler Keehn hit a double. Senior Hugh Brady was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for San Marin (2-0).
Senior Jack Evans, junior August Block and sophomore Solly Ojalvo accounted for the three hits from the Peregrine Falcons (0-3).
• San Rafael showed its power at the plate early, and some solid defense kept The Branson School off the board Tuesday during the Bulldogs’ 9-0 victory at College of Marin. The Bulldogs (3-3) scored three runs in both the first and second innings. San Rafael scored a run in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth with some smart base running. Cruz Wexler came to bat in the fifth with the bases loaded and an eight-run lead. A sacrifice fly scored the final run of the game. San Rafael surrendered only four hits to the Bulls (0-2), including two by Charlie Osher and one each from Grayson Roberts and Hayden Winslow. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Friday.
• A three-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning gave Redwood the lead, as the Giants locked up a 7-3 road victory over Novato on Tuesday. Lucas Ghio was 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Giants (1-1-1), who also got a pair of hits from Chase Johnson.
• Jude Baker scored in the bottom of the fourth inning to give host Marin Catholic a 1-0 victory over Terra Linda (1-1) on Tuesday. Wildcats senior Hunter Valla had a hit and an RBI, while Cooper Mitchell hit a double and Baker and Carson Davis each had a base hit. Cooper Benjamin and Jack McGovern each struck out seven and walked one to combine for the win for Marin Catholic (3-0).
Late playoffs
The Marin Catholic girls basketball team advance to the NorCal D-II quarterfinals following a 61-45 victory at home against No. 14 Christopher on Tuesday night. The No. 3 Wildcats will host another NorCal game at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The full story from this game can be found online at marinij.com/sports and will run in Thursday’s print edition. The Redwood girls also stayed alive, posting a 66-52 win against Lincoln.
Aptos defeated the San Domenico boys 67-64 in a D-V layoff game on Tuesday. The full story will run online and be included in Thursday’s print edition. the Branson boys also bowed out 59-55 against Archbishop Mitty. The Bulls tied the game 52-52 inside the final 4 minutes.
The Redwood boys were unable to keep pace with Oakland Tech, falling 71-57.
Boys golf
Terra Linda’s Brian Yonkin took medalist honors with a 43 at StoneTree, but Novato’s depth helped the Hornets beat the host Trojans 249-260 on Monday. Gio Zucconi led Novato with a 45.
• Three Redwood players tied at 33 at StoneTree as the Giants beat San Rafael, 170-181, on Monday. Brody Root, Beckman Watrous and Julian Shayeb paced Redwood, while Jack Mount was one shot behind at 34. San Rafael’s Kai Payne took medalist honors with a 30, followed by Logan Dean and Cameron Moayedi at 34.
Girls lacrosse
Marin Catholic fell to host Amador Valley, 10-8, on Monday. The Wildcats (0-2) will try to get their first win of the season on Friday when they host Berkeley.
Men’s basketball
Novato High grad Josh DeVore and the Cal Lutheran Regals will play Hardin Simmons University on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament in Houston. DeVore, a freshman, is averaging nine points through seven games for the Regals (22-5).
Women’s basketball
Senior Kylie Horstmeyer and San Diego (6-23) will open the West Coast Conference tournament on Thursday against Pepperdine in Las Vegas. The Toreros are 0-2 against Pepperdine this season, but the Waves narrowly escaped with a 68-66 win as Horstmeyer led San Diego with 13 points. Horstmeyer, a Redwood High grad, is averaging 12.9 points and four rebounds for San Diego this season.
• Marin Catholic grad Alexa Greenwood and the Cal Lutheran Regals (21-6) will play McMurry University on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament in Marshall, Texas. Greenwood, a senior, is averaging 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game across 27 games, primarily coming off the bench.
