John Francis Schott, born to Charles Schott and Bertha Hartnagel on November 13, 1946, lived a life defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering sense of adventure. He passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2024, at the home he loved in Lake of the Pines. John is survived by his beloved wife, Claudia Cook; his sister Patricia; his brother Chuck; and his two children, Brenda LaFleur and Jason Schott, along with Jason's wife, Brandi, whom John considered a daughter. He also leaves behind his stepson Clayton Cook and his wife Selina Cook. His adored grandchildren include Savanah LaFleur, Drew Cook, Kylie Cook, Grace Schott, and Emma Schott, as well as his precious great-grandchild, Charlotte Schott. He is also remembered by his ex-wife of 20 years, Penny Bagley.
John's life began on a family farm, where he grew up with all four of his siblings, embracing the values of hard work and close-knit family bonds. His early years on the farm shaped him into the man who would go on to serve his country with pride, earning an honorable discharge. After his service, John spent time at Myers and Company, working as a printer and lineman for what is now Coors. A man of integrity, he stood up for workers' rights, helping to bring about meaningful change in the company's work environment.
John later took a leap of faith and transitioned into real estate, a career he would passionately pursue for 41 years. He was instrumental in opening the Century 21 office in Boulder with Michael Shinn, before establishing his own branch of Red Carpet Realty. His dedication to helping others find a place to call home was more than a job-it was his calling. His hard work and vision helped his family build a lasting legacy in Boulder real estate. Yet, as much as he loved his career, John's greatest pride and joy was always his family. His love for them knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with those he held dear.
An avid football fan and lover of fast cars and motorcycles, John had a zest for life that never faded. His lucky day was always Friday the 13th, and even at 77, you could find him riding his Harley to Central City for a game of cards on a Friday night. He traveled the world, saw its wonders, and enjoyed every second along the way, never letting life slow him down.
John's legacy is one of love, loyalty, and a life lived to the fullest. He will be remembered for his warmth, his passion for adventure, and his deep love for his family.
His memory will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
