As one Michigan Mr. Basketball award winner is set to join the Wolverines, another one is departing.

Durral “Phat Phat” Brooks entered the transfer portal on Wednesday following a freshman season where he played sparingly at Michigan. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

“I’ve loved everything about @umichball since I was in diapers and that feeling will never change,” Brooks wrote in a social media post. “It’s a special place and I appreciate my teammates, coaches, and every member of the maize (and) blue community who has supported my growth. Thank you all.”

Brooks appeared in 15 games this past season and logged a total of 49 minutes for a Michigan team that won the Big Ten tournament title and reached the Sweet 16. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard tallied 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals in limited action.

The Grand Rapids Catholic Central product was named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball in 2024 and was a three-star prospect who was the top-ranked recruit in the state by 247Sports. He was a member of The Detroit News Dream Team as a senior and was a Division 2 all-state first-team selection by The News as a junior.

Despite those accolades, Brooks was near the bottom of the depth chart at a position where the Wolverines had a bunch of experienced players, including upperclassmen like Tre Donaldson, Nimari Burnett, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Rubin Jones.
