CRASH RESENTENCING: A Park Forest man who pleaded guilty in October 2019 to driving while intoxicated when involved in a fatal crash is to be resentenced after an appellate court overturned his seven-year prison term. Dustin J. Greiner, now 42, struck a vehicle stopped and waiting to turn left Nov. 7, 2017, in the 1900 block of West Indiana Avenue in unincorporated Will County near Beecher. The impact pushed that vehicle into oncoming traffic, causing a second collision that killed the 16-year-old passenger. The Illinois Appellate Court ordered Greiner to be resentenced because the trial judge linked the sentence length to his 9-year-old daughter’s age versus the victim’s age, and because individuals making victim-impact statements included persons indirectly affected by the victim’s death.

GUN SENTENCING: Pablo A. Pena, 33, 1200 block of Park Avenue, Chicago Heights, was sentenced to three years in prison with credit for time served April 13 after pleading guilty to being a felon illegally possessing a firearm, according to Will County Circuit Court records online. Pena was arrested in October 2021 after an officer observed a loaded .380 semi automatic handgun in the car during a traffic stop in Beecher, police said.

THEFT RING: Two Chicago men and a Chicago woman are charged with burglary and theft for allegedly taking items at a cellphone store April 12, according to Will County Circuit Court records online. Albert D. Morris, 30, and Tekiyel J. Thomas, 24, wearing face masks, took display phones and tablets from the T-Mobile store, 20245 La Grange Road, before exiting and running toward a waiting car operated by Timeka Love, 36, police said. Love, Morris and Thomas are scheduled to return to court May 4 for a pretrial hearing. Love is free on $25,000 bond, according to court and sheriff’s online records. As of Wednesday, Thomas remained in the Will County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond and Morris remained in lieu of $50,000, according to court and sheriff’s records online.

HOME INVASION: A Lockport man was arrested early Saturday and accused of home invasion, aggravated battery, aggravated assault to a police officer and resisting arrest in connection with a break-in at a nearby home, police said. Alexander P. Lello, 32, walked from his home in the 1500 block of Hamilton Street after a domestic disturbance to a home in the 1500 block of Washington Street, where he damaged several items on the front porch before entering through the unlocked front door, police said. Once inside, Lello struck a 72-year-old man and 54-year-old woman with a concrete lawn decoration before going to the basement and damaging several walls and a television, police said. Officers responding encountered Lello three blocks away and attempted to take him into custody, but he responded by threatening them with a “gardening implement,” police said. The man was treated for a head wound at Silver Cross Hospital and the woman suffered minor redness and soreness, police said. Lello is free on $50,000 bond, according to court and Will County sheriff’s records online.

DRUG BUST: A Peotone man’s malfunctioning headlight led to the recovery of just under three pounds of marijuana Friday morning just west of Interstate 57, police said. Sherrod T. Chandler, 39, 400 block of Crawford Street, is charged with possessing 500-2,000 grams of cannabis, a Class 3 felony, according to Will County circuit court records online. An officer discovered 1,357 grams (2.987 pounds) of marijuana in the car during the 12:37 a.m. stop in the 6300 block of West Monee-Manhattan Road, police said. Chandler, who was also cited for driving on a revoked license, is scheduled to return to court May 5, according to court records online. He is free on $5,000 bond, according to sheriff’s records online.

WANTED DRIVER: William Mathis, 39, undisclosed address, Matteson, was served with a Cook County warrant for aggravated discharge of a weapon and a Richton Park warrant for assault during an April 5 traffic stop on Monee-Manhattan Road, police said.

TRACTOR-TRAILER RECOVERED: Officers recovered a semi tractor-trailer April 8 at Petro Travel Center and returned it to the owners in Burr Ridge.

DRUNKEN DRIVING A Chicago man was arrested and accused of drunken driving and reckless driving April 13 after a good Samaritan rescued him from a sinking vehicle at Twin Lakes, police said. Leon Santor, 56, was southbound on Cicero Avenue a little before 9 p.m. when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway at 165th Street, police said. A witness swam out to the car and brought Santor to the shoreline, where first responders rendered medical aid before taking him to a medical facility, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: Devyn C. Hood, 36, Chicago, was arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and resisting arrest March 30 on Orland Square Drive, police said. Officers patrolling a restaurant/bar/video arcade parking lot spotted a .40 caliber handgun and attached magazine on the driver’s side floorboard of a parked, unoccupied car, police said. Officers determined the vehicle’s owner, Hood, lacked state authorization to have or carry a firearm, and took him into custody after a brief chase, police said. The magazine was loaded with 13 bullets, police said.

PAROLE VIOLATOR: Jacques K. Nile, 23, Lynwood, was served with an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant for violating parole and a Henry County warrant charging aggravated assault during an April 2 stop at 151st Street and La Grange Road, police said. Nile is serving a six-year prison sentence stemming from Henry County convictions for home invasion, being a felon illegally possessing a weapon and illegally possessing a weapon in a vehicle, according to IDOC records online.

SCHOOLS LOCKDOWN: The accidental activation of the emergency notification system at Century Junior High and Meadow Ridge Elementary at 1:55 p.m. April 5, triggered a full search of both schools before both were released from lockdown, police said. Officers suspected the system had been accidentally turned on.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Stephen L. Henderson, 36, 100 block of Shabbona Drive, Park Forest, was arrested April 13 on a charge of aggravated domestic battery, according to police and Will County Circuit Court records online. Police said Henderson struck another person in the head with a gun March 17 in that block and was subsequently arrested at the police station as he asked why his car had been towed.

PAROLE VIOLATION: Kenneth Blair, 29, 100 block of 112th Street, Steger, was taken into custody April 14 on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant for violating parole and a Will County warrant charging two counts of aggravated domestic battery on March 7, according circuit court online records.
