On Saturday morning, the Woodland Public Library was one of the key places to be around town when cars, hearses, busses, trucks, fire engines, and various other large vehicles spaced themselves out the parking lot at 250 First St. for the library’s Read, Rubmble and Rev event.

The free event, formerly called Touch-A-Truck, enthralled kids and adults alike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving everyone in attendance the chance to learn and interact with vehicles, including the Woodland Police and Fire Department, Waste Management, the city of Woodland’s utility vehicles, Yolo County Transportation and a few others.

“This is the Woodland Public Library’s biggest event of the year,” said the Makerspace Librarian of Square One inside the Woodland Public Library Trina Camping. “The turnout is a little less than last year as we had to change the name and the Celtic Festival going on, but it’s great. People are so excited to be out and doing something. We had book giveaways, crafts, a book sale, and people getting library cards.”

According to a city of Woodland press release, the event was different from other car shows because children could not only interact with the trucks but also with the “‘heroes’ that drive and operate them.”

“Oh, the families and kids loved today’s event. Their eyes get so huge,” Camping said. “The drivers love this event too. They finally have a chance to show off their cool trucks and vehicles.”

The Woodland Public Library’s book bikes were present at the event, with the library’s Teen Advisory Board members giving out free books to children in attendance and information about upcoming library events and programs.

Inside the library was a book sale with proceeds going toward The Friends of the Woodland Public Library, which sponsor much of the library’s amazing programming, including our Summer Reading Program. Donations were also accepted.

Woodland’s Las Brasas and Kona Ice were also on-site, selling food for families with hungry kids.
