The Niwot boys and girls had sizeable leads in the Class 4A team title races late into the second day of the state track and field meet at Jefferson County Stadium on Friday.

Erie’s girls are knocking on the door to get into 5A’s top five heading into the final day of the meet Saturday. Longmont’s girls were a few spots inside 4A’s top 10, while Prospect Ridge was right on 3A’s top-10 bubble and Jefferson Academy was just outside of it.

For the boys, Legacy (5A) and Peak to Peak (3A) were sitting around 10th at Day 2’s end. In 4A, Holy Family and Silver Creek were just out the top 10.

A master leaper

Discovery Canyon’s Preston Wysocki may have won the 4A boys high jump competition Friday morning at 6 feet, 5 inches, but Longmont’s Mason Hendricks didn’t trail too far below — by just two inches, in fact. Hendricks was among six competitors to clear 6-3, but because his missed the mark once, he tied for third. Lewis-Palmer’s Joseph Kitonsa claimed the silver outright by clearing that height on his first try.

Giving it their best shot

While no one could touch Palmer Ridge’s Owen Twesme in the 4A boys shot put — he won by almost a foot at 55-7.25 — three local boys flexed their muscles with top-six marks in the event. Silver Creek’s Ibrahim Kabore (52-2.25) squeaked just past Holy Family’s Brady Lindoerfer (52-1.5) to claim fourth. Mead senior Grant Gordon, who placed second in the heavyweight division at the Class 4A state wrestling championships in the winter, rang in at sixth with a toss of 49-11.25.

Maintaining the status quo

In keeping up with the dominance that has come to define Peak to Peak pole vault, Chelsey Streifel finished fourth in the 3A competition. Her clearance of 9-11 trailed 1 1/2 feet behind University’s Cadence Schedlbauer, who placed third at 11-5, and two feet behind the state champion, Resurrection Christian’s Addison Barker (11-8).

Longmont fourth in girls 4×200

Breaking the 4A state meet record in 1:38.86 was Niwot’s Eliana Henriques, Sammie Holliday, Kate Schmidthuber and Reese Kasper. Behind them, in fourth, was Longmont’s Alex McGregor, Maya Pears, Lea Irvin and Terra Brubaker in 1:40.98. The previous record at the 4A state meet was held by Niwot in 2021.

Lyons third in boys 4×200

Jesse Nunez, Mebratu Duckwitz, Evan Bolkovatz and Will Dumbauld finished in 1:33.42 for bronze. Holyoke won it in 1:30.40.

Niwot girls go 5-6 in 4A 800

Addy Ritzenhein was fifth and Anna Prok sixth in the half-mile. On Thursday, Ritzenhein won her third straight 4A 3,200, while both her and Prok were part of gold in the 4×800.

Notable

Erie’s Brett Michalski was sixth in the 5A 3,200 and Longmont’s Bode Becker was eighth in the 4A 800.

In girls, Legacy’s Annalina Torres was sixth in the 5A 800 and should have a chance to podium in the multiple sprint events Saturday. Prospect Ridge’s Emily Jones was eighth in the 3A 800.
