Ross leaves behind a post-retirement life here in Colorado that encompassed music as a singer with the Rocky Mountain Chorale and Boulder Chorale, participation in the Boulder Parkinson's community, and writing limericks and other doggerel with others in his NIA exercise group.

In 2023 Ross was awarded the Order of Australia for significant achievement in pharmacy. His work led the way to transition Australian pharmacy from distributive to clinical practice.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Nimmo, of Louisville and three children in Australia, Fred, Adrienne, and Chris Holland. His American step-children are Alex Bradley of Louisville, Kate Visciani in Texas, and Stephanie Warner in Maryland.
