The witch is back!! And Kathryn Hahn could not be more delighted.

Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, a Marvel Comics witch, debuted on Disney+ in Marvel’s “WandaVision” in 2021 and was last seen trapped in the New Jersey town of Westview.

In “Agatha All Along,” she has lost all her powers and escapes with the help of a gay goth teen known as Kid. Now if she is ever to be a powerful witch once again she must learn to work with a coven of witches.

As for Hahn’s reprise with Agatha?

“First of all” she said in a virtual press conference, “I love this part so much and so much of the Agatha in ‘WandaVision’ was performance. She’s such a performer! We called her a blooming onion, there are so many layers.

“To strip under those layers of defense built up over centuries was wonderful. She looks fabulous — but she’s not young. To see what’s driving that and go deeper, as an actor you just want that stuff to chew on. It felt really natural.”

Filming the 9-episode series took place in Georgia for six months. Hahn’s witchy coven includes Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch, and Aubrey Plaza’s warrior witch Rio Vidal.

“We’d have this circle together between takes,” Hahn, 51, recalled. “It felt unexpectedly trippy, really very witchy. Like a coven around a cauldron. You could hear our cackles on the other side. It was so immersive as an actor you didn’t have to shake off the outside world. It felt very connected to the earth right there.”

Hahn’s abilities to jump between heroes and villains has been a hallmark of an impressive career. Agatha, she acknowledged, is truly villainous.

“The villain part is fun — and the easiest part. It’s Agatha’s well-honed performance. She really thinks everyone is beneath her. She makes fun of people.

“That’s the easy stuff. The hard stuff was to try to get to allow herself to crack the door, just a little, to her vulnerability. Anyone can get in there now.

“That was the tough part — and also such a challenge and the juiciest.”

As to what, if anything, she’s learned in this Marvel universe, “Like ‘WandaVision,’ there are some genuine, good, old-fashioned surprises which is exciting. Also, there is something about these incredible worlds where you really have to surrender: It’s a real, living, breathing organism and you just have to be open to linking to this world.”

As to what she hopes audiences will find, it’s complex.

“You’re watching all these characters be courageous. You should keep trying. The community is important. You can’t do it alone. Our witchiness? It’s our special super power.”
