A Macomb County female teenager has been charged with the non-fatal stabbing of an underage Detroit boy at Campus Martius that took place this past weekend, according to Wayne County prosecutors.

The 16-year-old girl, who lives in Roseville, had a preliminary hearing Monday at the Juvenile Detention Facility in the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center.

Referee Leslie Graves set the teen’s bond at $7,500. She was ordered not to possess knives or weapons, and to have no contact with the victim.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said the incident took place about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Campus Martius in the 1000 block of Woodward Avenue.

Detroit police were dispatched the popular gathering spot downtown for a report of stabbing. When they arrived, officers found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the stomach.

Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. At last report, the youngster was reported to be in temporary serious condition.

“It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the juvenile and the victim escalated, and the juvenile produced a pocketknife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the stomach,” prosecutors said in a news release.

An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the juvenile a short time later.

The teen suspect has been charged with felonious assault.

The petition was transferred to Macomb County. All future hearings will be held in Macomb County because she is a Roseville resident, said Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller.

Published reports indicate the stabbing was the second violent incident involving teens at Campus Martius in recent years. In 2022, during the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, two teens were shot in the area.
