A 34-year-old woman was found fatally stabbed Tuesday in Gary, officials said.
Police responded at 10:52 p.m. to the 300 block of Tyler Street in Gary for a welfare check, Gary police Cmdr. Jack Hamady said in a news release.
The home was secured, “and officers could not make entry,” Hamady said. After canvassing the area, officers wanted to check inside the residence, he said.
A relative was contacted and let officers inside, where police found a woman “with a stab wound” who was “lifeless,” Hamady said.
The Lake County coroner’s office identified the woman as Mary Rawson, of Gary. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to a news release.
“At this time the investigation is underway and in the preliminary stages,” Hamady said.
