Resident of Lafayette
David Arnold Miscovich went to walk with the Lord and reunite with his wife, Thelma, on Veteran’s Day, 2025.
David was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He was a kind and giving man who never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation, share a good story, and leave the listener feeling better about themselves. He lived a life of service and love for others.
David was born in Oakland, California, on March 6, 1933, to John and Martina Miscovich. He graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1951 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to duty at MCAS Kaneohe where he worked in aviation mechanics and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Upon discharge, he enrolled at West Contra Costa Junior College where he earned his Associate in Arts degree. He subsequently worked in electronics at the Oakland Airport and eventually at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he had a successful career spanning 36 years.
David met his wife, Thelma, in Berkeley. They were married in 1963 and moved to Lafayette in 1965, where they purchased the home they would occupy their entire lives. They adopted their son, Philip, in 1966, and raised him with unconditional love and astute guidance. David and Thelma were married for 49 years until Thelma’s passing in 2012. They were members of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church and then Hillside Covenant Church, where they were blessed with many life-long friendships.
David had many hobbies and interests over the years.
He was amember of the Berkeley Ski Club, had an amazing model car collection, and loved to build birdhouses and “whirly-gigs” for friends and family. He never hesitated to help others with home repairs and other projects and tasks. David was also an avid Giants, 49ers, and Warriors fan. He and his son enjoyed many hours together watching their teams play over the years.
David is survived by his brother, John, and sister-in-law, Karyn, of Valdez, Alaska, as well as David’s son, Phil, daughter-in-law, Jenn, and granddaughter, Ellie, of Bend, Oregon. A service will be held at Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek on January 17th at 11 am. David was rightly proud of his service in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was also an active member of the Marine Corps League Mt. Diablo Detachment #942. In honor of David’s service, please consider donating to the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program this holiday season, or another worthy charity.
