Walter (Walt) Edward Kaskel, 90, of Centennial and formerly Breckenridge and Lakewood, CO passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023, in Stamford, CT with family after a long and adventuresome life. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Walter Kaskel Jr. and Phyllis Anzulis. Growing up his passion was baseball and he played on multiple teams at a time each season. He graduated Baltimore’s Polytechnic Institute and went on to earn a Mechanical Engineering degree from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He holds a patent for “Methods Of And Compositions For Cleaning Plastic Extruders” based upon his 5th year project “Airless Spray Painting” for the Fisher Body Division of General Motors Corporation. Walt began his career with Western Electric which later became AT&T Technologies, then Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent and finally Nokia. Prior to retirement he was General Manager of the Manufacturing Engineering plant in Northglenn, CO. An avid outdoorsman, Walt climbed 32 of the 53 Colorado Fourteeners.
His mountaineering expeditions included Alaska’s Denali, Argentina’s Aconcagua, Peru’s Auzangate and India’s Jogin I. He enjoyed the ancient arts of fly fishing and fly tying. He cultivated spectacular flower gardens. Walt stood out with his rugged good looks, striking white hair and quick wit. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years Patricia Kaskel, loving children Matthew (Nancy) Kaskel and Beth (Louis) Zafonte, adoring grandchildren Vincent (Emily) Zafonte and Alena Zafonte and his great grandchildren Nico and Louie Zafonte. Walt was predeceased by Mark Kaskel and Amy Kaskel. “WEK” is forever in our hearts. Private services with his family will be held at Olinger’s Cemetery in Centennial.
