Norman Eugene Howard of Venice, FL, formerly of Lake Orion, MI died peacefuly on February 20, 2025 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living Facility in Sarasota, FL. Born on July 11, 1937 in Port Huron, MI to Norman M and Elizabeth (Griffin) Howard, Norman (known as Eugene by almost everyone) spent his childhood in North Branch, MI. After graduating from North Branch High School in 1955, he attended General Motors Institute, obtaining a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, and was employed by General Motors for his entire career. Norman is preceeded in death by his parents, and is survived by his brother, R-Dell (Rinda) of Goetzville, MI and his sister, Irene Gibbons of Midland, MI.
Jane Elizabeth (McKillen) Howard died peacefully at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, FL on June 27, 2024. She was born on March 12, 1940 in Marlette, MI to Addison and Thelma (Kalbfleisch) McKillen. Jane attended Brown City High School and worked for 19 years as a school bus driver for Lake Orion Community Schools. She is proceeded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Martin. Norman and Jane were married on June 28, 1958, and enjoyed traveling extensively, taking their children on trips throughout the United States. After retirement, they continued traveling, most often to Europe, England, Ireland and Scotland with Germany being a favorite destination. They spent 11 very happy summers as campground host and hostess at Yellowstone Nat’l Park. Following this, they discovered Living History, joining the Michigan-based 5th Texas Co. E. They eventually settled in their beloved home in Venice, FL, returning to Michigan every summer to visit family. Norman also enjoyed genealogy, spending countless hours with Jane traveling to new-found family resulting in Norm compiling an extensive genealogy record of both his and Jane’s family. Jane enjoyed quilting with many family members benefitting from her beautiful handiwork. Norman and Jane are survived by their children: Jim (Cathy) Howard of Mancelona, MI, Waunita Baril of Oxford, MI, and Patricia (Rob Baumann) Bailey of Northport, FL; grandchildren, Brian (Becky) Howard, Veronica Howard, Christopher (Julie) Howard, Ashley (Scott) Rettmann, Addison (Samantha) Lowe, Joshua (Amber Lainhart) Bailey, Samantha Baril and great-grandchildren, Logan, Lydia, Laina, James, Ellie, Grayson, Mackenzie and Ryder. Cremation has taken place and the family will gather at a later date to celebrate the lives of Norman and Jane. Interment will take place at Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch, MI.
