Another successful Goodfellows campaign

The Clinton Township Goodfellows had another very successful year assuring ‘No Child Without a Christmas’ in Clinton Township and are appreciative of our many donors and toy drive sponsors.

We give a special shout out to the collective genius which is Rock 4 Tots. Scott Randall, Jim Klapp, Joe Evangelista, Margie Anders and Tina Sulisz work tirelessly year after year to enhance our Goodfellows mission. This past December 2024 was no different with the Rock for Tots fundraiser at Freddy’s in Clinton Township. Thousands of dollars were raised and a U-Haul full of toys donated.

The Rock for Tots group works many months to assure that children most in need of Christmas are blessed with gifts to brighten their day and fill their hearts with joy.

We want the community to know that Rock for Tots, our donors and toy drive sponsors are a huge part of the 541 children from families in need to whom we provided gifts feeling loved on this holiest of days.

Take care of American veterans

Establishing a community for U.S. and Ukrainian Veterans is very commendable, and I hope (David) Bonior achieves his goal (“Working together — U.S and Ukranian veterans,” Jan. 19 Macomb Daily). But my question is this, why not take care of our own first? So many charities are involved to better the lives of our veterans and their families, but our own government turns a blind eye to them. As of 2020 there were approximately 2 million Korean vets left, but that number is rapidly decreasing. Most of those still with us must fend for themselves, a few were fortunate to gain help and assistance, but very few. If it wasn’t for our Vietnam Vets few would be receiving any help. Thousands were exposed to Agent Orange, which our own government declared safe without any adverse effects, how wrong they were. The very persistence by those returning from NAM changed the scope of medical care and assistance, but still had some slip through the cracks. Words are cheap, actions say so much more, but those who could do so much more for our own feel the need to seek recognition elsewhere. Ninety-nine percent of all veterans feel they have been taken advantage of, promises made only to be broken. Lets hope the entire process changes, and for the better.
