Accumulating snow set to follow cold weekend
High pressure to our north will keep polar air in place as a weather system approaches from the Plains. Increasing clouds Sunday will signal a turn toward deteriorating weather. Satellite imagery late Saturday showed a powerful storm system moving inland across the Pacific Northwest. As it heads east, this disturbance will cause snow to spread over the area Sunday night, continuing through Tuesday.
An average of computer model snowfall forecasts suggest the area may receive 4 to 6 inches of accumulation by early Tuesday. Amounts may become locally higher by several inches as lake-effect snow showers develop Monday night and continue Tuesday. Though March can bring prolonged cold and heavy snows, medium-range forecasts favor a return of milder weather next weekend and beyond.
