SAN JOSE — A motorcycle rider died in a collision with a car Thursday morning on Senter Road, police said.

The crash was reported at 6:47 a.m. near Sylvandale Avenue, according to San Jose police.

Police said an initial investigation determined that a man driving a black 2015 Chevy Camaro was traveling east on Buckeye Drive crossing Senter Road to continue onto Sylvandale, when a man in a silver 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading north on Senter Road hit the broadside of the Camaro.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, police said. His name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Police said the Camaro driver stopped at the scene and spoke to investigators. There was no indication that he was cited or arrested.

The ensuing traffic investigation prompted a lengthy closure of both directions of Senter Road between Sylvandale and Hellyer avenues, and eastbound Sylvandale Avenue between Senter Road and Verdi Lane.

The crash marks the 10th traffic death of the year in San Jose, and the first to involve a motorcyclist, according to police and data compiled by this news organization.
