Police: Sex offender trailed child to school
Police arrested a convicted sex offender Tuesday after he allegedly followed a student onto the campus of Davidson Middle School.
The school notified authorities about a suspicious man on their campus at about 8 a.m. The school reported that the suspect did not touch the child and fled when staff approached him, police Sgt. Justin Graham said.
The suspect, who had been released from the Marin County Jail less than 24 hours before, is a parolee who was wearing a tracking monitor, Graham said. Police found the man on Woodland Avenue.
Willie Jessie Clinton-Jones, 45, of San Rafael was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of violating parole, being a registered sex offender on school grounds and annoying a child. He is being held without a bail amount.
Clinton-Jones was arrested in August for allegedly stalking three women in downtown San Rafael. His criminal history includes a 2023 conviction for indecent exposure and 2020 convictions for indecent exposure and molesting or annoying a minor, according to Marin County court records.
SAN RAFAEL
Suspect accused of thefts from teachers
A Fairfield man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing three San Rafael schools.
Marin County sheriff’s detectives began investigating the incidents in February. Authorities were notified about a suspicious person loitering at Mary E. Silveira Elementary School during a school assembly. Afterward, several teachers discovered their bank cards were stolen from wallets or purses they kept in classrooms, Deputy Stephanie Ware said. The stolen cards were used for purchases.
Investigators learned of similar crimes against teachers at Lucas Valley Elementary School and Venetia Valley School as well as elementary schools in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, Ware said. Investigators identified the suspect and made the arrest in Fairfield on Friday.
Christopher Britton, 34, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of burglary, using access cards without consent and identity theft. The Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed a 10-count criminal complaint on related charges and alleges that Britton has prior felony convictions.
Britton is being held without a bail amount.
