Miller hopes to play 15th NFL season
Von Miller has conflicted feelings about the Broncos honoring their Super Bowl 50 team during alumni weekend in October. That Week 7 game with the Giants is when the late Demaryius Thomas will be inducted into the team’s ring of fame during halftime ceremonies. “I would love to be there,” Miller said Wednesday during an event in Colorado, for his charity, Von’s Vision, “but I hope to not be there.” That’s because the NFL’s active sacks leader and 36-year-old free agent aims to be playing a 15th season in the NFL. “I hope to not be there — unless I’m playing for the Giants or the Broncos,” said Miller, who was released by the Bills in March. Although Miller has often talked about a reunion with the Broncos, for whom he starred from 2011-21, accumulating a team record 110 1/2 sacks, he doesn’t think re-signing with the team is realistic — at least not in 2025. Asked if the Broncos had reached out to him, Miller said, “I haven’t heard anything. But ... it really doesn’t make sense. They got two really, really good rushers that are best in the league (in) Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto.”
March Madness expansion possible
NCAA President Charlie Baker said Thursday he sees value in expanding the NCAA Tournament by a handful of teams and wants to reach a decision on the matter in the next few months. Baker spoke during Big 12 spring meetings in Orlando, Florida, where conference leaders are discussing everything from the multibillion-dollar revenue-sharing House settlement to complexities brought on by the transfer portal and name, image and likeness compensation. Baker, above, discussed the idea of expanding from 68 teams to 72 or 76. “We’ve had good conversations with CBS and WBD,” Baker said, referring to Warner Bros. Discovery, whose holdings include the Turner networks that air NCAA Tournament games. “Our goal here is to try to sort of get to either yes or no sometime in the next few months because there’s a lot of logistical work that would be associated with doing this. If we were to go down this road, you just think about the opening weekends, who has to travel the longest, it gets complicated.” The NCAA Tournament expanded from 64 to 68 teams in 2011.
Djokovic takes in Paris sights by bike
Novak Djokovic traded his racket for a bicycle and swapped the French Open’s clay courts for the cobblestone streets of Paris during a nighttime ride around the Arc de Triomphe. Less than 24 hours before the 24-time Grand Slam champion beat France’s Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the second round of the French Open at Roland-Garros on Thursday, Djokovic was spotted taking in the sights like a tourist while getting some exercise. Someone filmed Djokovic and posted a short clip on social media. Wearing a dark blue track suit, sneakers and a properly fastened helmet — safety first! — the 38-year-old Serbian star pedaled through the famously hectic roundabout at one end of the Champs-Élysées. Not exactly the most bike-friendly spot in the City of Light, but Djokovic looked perfectly at ease. Someone called out, “I love you!” and Djokovic responded with a grin and said, “I love you, too.” The 38-year-old Serb recently joined Jimmy Connors, who has a record 109 titles, and Roger Federer (103) as the only men in the Open era with at least 100 tournament wins. —AP
