San Lorenzo, CA

Marie I. McCarthy, a longtime resident of San Lorenzo, California, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning at the age of 95.

Born in San Francisco to Robert and Ida Dooley, both native San Franciscans, Marie grew up surrounded by the values of family and community. In 1949, she married Neal J. McCarthy, with whom she shared nearly 45 years of loving marriage until his passing in 1994. Together, they built a life rich in laughter, love, and cherished family memories.

Marie lived in San Lorenzo for over 70 years, creating a warm and welcoming home where she raised her children and took pride in every detail. She found joy in her garden, tending lovingly to her flowers and fruit trees, and she had a lifelong love of dancing, participating with various local groups over the years. A passionate traveler, Marie embraced adventure—whether journeying with Neal during their years together, traveling with their children both during his lifetime and after his passing, or later joining a local travel group, she cherished every opportunity to explore the world.

Though private by nature, Marie’s love for her family ran deep. She is survived by her three children: Dennis (Diane) of San Leandro; Sharon (Paul) of Redondo Beach; and Michael of Pacific Grove. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Erin (Francisco), Kevin (Alejandra), Ronan, Nina, and Raina, and she found great joy in her great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Camellia.

Marie will be laid to rest privately at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband. A celebration of her life will be held at alater date.

Her family will forever remember her strength, grace, and the quiet, enduring love she gave so freely.
