Kay Mauzy Wightman passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Kay was born in Berkeley in 1938 to Elliott Mauzy and Lucille Glass Mauzy.
Kay was a fifth generation Walnut Creek resident; graduating from Las Lomas High School in 1956. Kay met the love of her life, Earl Wightman and they married in December of 1956 enjoying a beautiful 54 year marriage until Earl’s passing in 2011.
Always a caring and nurturing person, Kay went to nursing school and became a nurse supporting a family practice for 45 years. Kay and Earl took over the family business, Mauzy Plumbing, and co ran the company up until retirement in 2008. Kay was very active in her community and served on multiple boards. She was the first female president of the Walnut Festival Association for two consecutive years in 1976 and 1977. She was the chairwoman for the Walnut Creek Bicentennial celebration; active in the Walnut Creek Historical society and as a member of the Glass family, supported the San Ramon Valley Historical Society to help preserve the Glass House in San Ramon. Early in her nursing days Kay also worked the Crisis and Suicide Prevention hotlines for Contra Costa County.
A lover of music, Kay was also a huge supporter of the arts, supporting many musical endeavors of family members and took piano lessons for 17 years. Kay was a special person full of love and light. She had a profound impact on many people throughout her life and will be greatly missed. Kay is survived by her two daughters and two granddaughters: Lori Thompson, husband Lorne Thompson, their daughter Lindsey; Kim Lampo, husband Matt Lampo and their daughter Adrienne Lampo; and Kay’s sister, Claudia Mauzy Nemir.
A private family interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to donate to the San Ramon Valley Historical Society at P. O. Box 521, Danville, CA. 94526.
