The Davis community will be gathering on Friday to honor the life of first officer to die in the line of duty since 1959. The city of Davis Police Department will host a public remembrance ceremony for 22-year-old Officer Natalie Corona, who was killed in 2019 while performing a routine traffic stop.
The person believed to have committed the shooting, Kevin Douglas Limbaugh, walked up to a traffic accident Corona was responding to. He then started shooting at her patrol car, a fire truck and a minivan, striking the officer who died later at the hospital.
Limbaugh was previously convicted in a battery case and agreed to surrender his semiautomatic rifle after the verdict. After shooting Corona, Limbaugh was found dead in his home just a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to his head.
Corona was the first officer from the Davis department killed in the line of duty in over 60 years, according to the department’s original statement. She had only been patrolling solo for about two weeks at the time of Corona’s death.
The ceremony will start at noon on Jan. 10 at the Davis Police Department, located at 2600 5th St.
