Sentencing was handed down Tuesday to a Commerce Township man for the murder of his wife — who was a longtime employee of the Novi Community Schools District when she was slain nearly four years ago.
As mandated by state law, Oakland County Circuit Judge Jacob Cunningham sentenced Vincent Vuichard, 67, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first-degree homicide of Tatiana “Tanya” Vuichard. Vincent Vuichard was found guilty of the crime at the conclusion of a jury trial last November.
Tanya Vuichard was killed at the Maple Crossing condominium complex where the couple lived, and her body was found by Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies during a welfare check after she didn’t show up for work on May 17, 2021. The body was on the bathroom floor, covered with a comforter.
Tanya Vuichard died from multiple stab and slash wounds. She was 59 years old when she was slain.
As previously reported, the prosecution said Vincent Vuichard was “in the process of covering up, trying to get rid of his wife’s body and destroying evidence when (deputies) arrived,” at the Vuichard home. The body was wrapped in garbage bags and a blanket on a bathroom floor, according to the prosecution.
Vincent Vuichard had asserted an insanity defense. The jury returned with its verdict after deliberating for less than one day.
As part of the sentence, Vuichard is prohibited from having contact or association with his and Tanya Vuichard’s two children and their immediate families, and Tanya Vuichard’s sister.
Earlier, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said there was a lengthy history of domestic violence which included stalking by Vincent Vuichard; he had been banned from Novi Community Schools property.
Tanya Vuichard’s obituary states, in part: “She was genuine, loving, and kind; her positive energy brightened every room she walked into. Tanya was a wonderful caregiver and persistent in all aspects of her life. Her number one priority was her family.”
