Twenty-three boys from the BoCoPreps coverage area graced their way onto CHSAA’s all-state lists, with Class 5A state tournament qualifier Broomfield leading the way.
The Eagles, who bowed out in the third consolation round of the tournament, enjoyed second-team selections from senior catcher and Daily Camera player of the year Brendan Fritch (.545 batting average, 1.545 OPS) and senior pitcher/first baseman Maverick Scarpella (2.13 ERA, 75 strikeouts). Their teammates, senior outfielder Caden Williamson and senior pitcher Ethan Zufall, began the long list of locals on honorable mentions.
Skyline’s senior outfielder/first baseman/pitcher Matt Lanier missed out on an all-state nod, but put together a strong enough season to earn himself the Times-Call player of the year honor.
Other honorable mentions in 5A included Erie’s junior pitcher/outfielder Maddox Burnett, senior outfielder Austin Muir and senior shortstop/second baseman Ronin Ward; Fairview senior Jack Espiritu-Niswonger, junior Isaac Waymire and junior Jackson Wier; and Legacy junior Chase Hoelting, senior Jason Olsen and senior Ethan Sanchez.
No local 4A representatives paved paths onto first or second team, but there were plenty of honorable mentions to go around, thanks to: Holy Family’s senior outfielder Dustin Bennett; Silver Creek’s junior pitcher/infielder Nolan Gaccetta and senior pitcher/infielder Nate Spiegel; Mead’s junior pitcher Kaleb Walter; and Centaurus’ senior pitcher/center fielder Zack Young.
Prospect Ridge Academy senior infielder/pitcher Zeke Bote earned the only other second-team nod, this time in Class 3A, thanks to his stellar season that reaped a 1.91 ERA and a .419 batting average. Peak to Peak’s senior first basemen/pitchers Owen Branscum and AJ Greene joined him on honorable mention.
Lyons’ brotherly pair of sophomore Zack LaCrosse and junior Jake LaCrosse rounded out the all-state teams from the area with honorable mention in 2A.
