Points weren’t easy to come by for either team on Sunday at ExtraMile Arena, but they were especially difficult to obtain for the Colorado Buffaloes.
For the first time in more than four years, the CU women’s basketball team failed to hit a 3-pointer and was handed its first of the season, 50-47, against Boise State in Boise, Idaho.
CU went 0-for-17 from beyond the arc, snapping a streak of 125 consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer. The last time CU didn’t hit a 3-pointer was on March 1, 2020, at USC.
The Buffs (2-1) never trailed by more than four points and still had a chance to win in the closing seconds.
Down by three, the Buffs passed up a 3-pointer and got a layup from Jade Masogayo to pull within 48-47, but with only 0.9 left on the clock.
CU quickly fouled the Broncos (2-0) and Teryn Gardner made both free throws. That gave the Buffs one last chance to tie with a quick 3-pointer, but Lior Garzon’s final attempt fell short.
The Buffs made just 33.9% of their shots for the day (20-of-59), which was actually better than Boise State (32.1%, 17-of-53). The Broncos, however, drained six 3-pointers.
In addition to rough shooting, the two teams combined for 49 turnovers (25 for Boise State, 24 for CU).
Masogayo finished with a game-best 13 points, while also pulling down seven rebounds.
