Michael was born August 27, 1942, to Charles and Theresa Hinz, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 27, 2024.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, “papa”, brother, uncle and friend, known for his unwavering love of family, deep faith, and warm sense of humor.

Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Josephine “JoAnn” Hinz, and their children Emily (Chuck) Robb, Brian (Laura), Jean Hinz, John (Shannon), Paul (Tricia), Sarah (Thomas) Bystrzycki, Mary (Ryan) Collier and Catherine Hinz.

Michael was the proud grandfather of 16 cherished grandchildren, each of whom he loved deeply; siblings Jim (Nita), Elaine (Joel) Greer, Janella (Chuck) Schroers, Tina (Jim) Berkhoel, Pam Carlson, Tom (Louise), Grace (Mark) Alberg, Terry (Jane), Renee (Denny) Holz; sisters-in-law Ann Hinz and Pat Hinz; brother-in-law Bob Younger. He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Theresa, brothers Philip and Donald, sister Patricia Younger, brother-in-law Tom Carlson, and nephews Kelly Hinz and Morgan Hinz.

A man of strong faith, Michael prayed the Rosary every day and served as a guiding light for those who knew him.

His love for his faith was matched only by his dedication to his family.

Michael was a visionary entrepreneur whose hard work and determination transformed a small refuse hauling business into one of the largest private haulers in Minnesota.

Michael’s favorite pastimes included spending time at the family cabin, fishing in quiet waters, woodworking, making stained glass, sharing his love of restoring and driving classic cars, and working in the corn and blueberry patch. He leaves a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends for years to come.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:30 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4125 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with interment at Cottage Grove Cemetery immediately following. All are invited to a luncheon following the graveside service.
