Regional track meets have come and gone, and lots of Macomb County athletes punched their tickets to the upcoming state track championships on May 31. Division 1 meets are at East Kentwood, D2 is at Hamilton HS, D3 is at Kent City HS and D4 is at Hudsonville HS/Baldwin MS.

All — and only — state qualifiers from regional competition will be noted within their respective meets. The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify, and others can qualify by hitting marks set by the MHSAA. This is also the first year that competitors were able to qualify by meeting those standards outside of the regional meet setting.

Only Macomb County athletes will be listed.

Region 07-1 (Grosse Pointe South)

De La Salle finished in second place in the men’s standings with a score of 118. Lakeview placed seventh, Warren Mott eighth, Roseville ninth, Cousino 11th and Warren Woods Tower 12th.

100 meter: De La Salle’s Micah Walker finished first (11.07), with Lakeview’s Dallas Harris second (11.08) and DLS’s Michael Lopez third (11.11).

200 meters: Walker placed second in this event at 22.44, marking the second event he qualified for states in.

400: De La Salle’s Tristan Wolff finished fourth with a personal record of 49.47.

1600 meters: Lakeview’s Jensen McCutcheon’s time of 4:37.04 was good enough for second place and a state qualification.

Shot put: A pair of Pilots — Dewayne Williams III at 49-7.5 and Anthony Presnell at 47-10 — placed top two in the event.

Discus: Warren Mott’s Michael Plater threw the disc 145-6, and Williams hit 145-1 for his second state qualification. They finished second and third, respectively.

High jump: Roseville’s Kyle Reeves and De La Salle’s Deondra Mapp Jr. both hit 6-0, tying for the top spot in the meet.

Pole vault: Nathan Wilson of Lakeview tied for the top spot, vaulting 10-6.

Long jump: De La Salle’s Walker Neff won the event with a jump distance of 21-6.

Region 10-1 (Romeo)

Dakota placed first, with Utica (third), Stevenson (fourth) and Chippewa Valley (fifth) rounding out the top five for Macomb County competition. Following them were L’Anse Creuse, Anchor Bay, Romeo, Eisenhower and Fraser from sixth to ninth, then Ford, Sterling Heights and L’Anse Creuse North from 11th to 13th.

100 meters: Ford’s Mike Brown (11.02), Dakota’s Cory Franklins (11.09) and Utica’s Jonathan Carter (11.10) paved the top three.

200 meters: Brown won this event, too, at 22.73, slightly ahead of second-place Will Jones-Terrell (22.74) of Chippewa Valley. Stevenson’s Ronnie Hill hit an AQ time of 22.37 in the prelims.

400 meters: Hill won the finals with a time of 49.33.

800 meters: Eisenhower’s Colden Gray raced to a time of 1:58.12, placing second.

1600: Utica’s Harper Wesley finished in second place with a time of 4:29.46.

3200: Dakota’s Lucas LaMilza is a state qualifier with a time of 9:35.50, good for second place.

110m hurdles: Christopher Dotson of Dakota finished with a time of 15.19 to win the event, beating out second-place Nolan Vivian (15.75) of Eisenhower.

300m hurdles: Dotson also qualified in the longer hurdle race with a time of 39.30. Not far behind was Anchor Bay’s Jonah Konarz at 39.88.

4×100 relay: Stevenson’s team of Ronnie Hill, Landon Porter, David Keep and John Taylor (41.98), Chippewa Valley’s of Ennis Carter, Duayne Jonhson-Joplin, Eric Thomas and Will Jones-Terrell (42.90), L’Anse Creuse’s of Kaustyn Harris, Corey Holmes, Ahmad Orr and Jacob Marang (43.03) and Dakota’s of James Nash, Micah Mikanga, Tre Von Palmer and Cory Franklin (43.06) all qualified.

4×200 relay: Chippewa Valley’s team of Joe Lugiraj, Duayne Johnson-Joplin, Dominik Kozlowski and Will Jones-Terrell (1:29.30) and Dakota’s squad of Tra Von Palmer, Christopher Dotson, Micah Mikanga and Cory Franklin (1:29.54) placed first and second.

4×400 relay: Romeo’s team of Gavin Shade, Owen Perry, Henry Terrien and Ryan Rohrborn (3:25.33) finished second.

4×800 relay: Finishing first was Utica’s quarter of Charlie Curtis, Luke Morehouse, Gavin Frandle and Harper Wesley (7:59.33).

Shot put: Three county athletes qualified, with L’Anse Creuse’s Dominic Weatherly leading the pack at 57-4.75. Fraser’s Caleb Stanberry landed at 49-9.5 and Dakota’s Tyler Torey hit 49-7.

Discus: This class was even more loaded; Anchor Bay’s Cameron Gramzow’s throw of 171-10 cleared the field, with Weatherly (165-2), Dakota’s Brandon Meehan (149-5) and Fraser’s Jackson Sines (147-6) also hitting the mark.

High jump: L’Anse Creuse’s Corey Holmes hit 6-2 to qualify.

Pole vault: Fraser’s Jackson Sines won with a distance of 11-9. Eisenhower’s Ben Kapanka and Dakota’s Aaron Royster also qualified at 11-3.

Long jump: Utica’s Jonathan Carter leapt 21-1.25 and Ike’s Ryan Varner hit 20-11.25.

Region 18-2 (Oakland University hosted by Marian)

Lake Shore finished in second place, just ahead of third-place Fitzgerald. South Lake placed seventh, Center Line 10th and Lincoln 13th.

100 meters: Fitzgerald’s Michael Franks finished third but his time of 11.20 was good for a qualification.

400 meters: Tristan Crooks from Fitzgerald won the race with a time of 50.48.

110 meter hurdles: Lake Shore’s Anthony Woods led the pack with a time of 15.21.

300 meter hurdles: Woods qualified here, too, placing second at 42.31.

4×100 relay: Placing third, Fitzgerald’s team of Michael Franks, Jaylen Maddox, Tristan Crooks and Myron Hardy finished in 43.73 to qualify for states.

4×400 relay: Lake Shore’s squad of Armon Harris, Dylan Wheeler, Desmond Jackson-Buford and Jayvon Jernigan finished in second place, clocking in at 3:31.57.

Shot put: Fitz’s Jordan Howard finished in second place with a distance of 39-6.25.

Discus: James Taylor from Lake Shore hit 141-5 and Center Line’s Keegan Dunne’s 138-1 to both go to states.

High jump: Lake Shore’s Lewis Huston hit 5-10, placing second.

Pole vault: Logan Morrell from Lake Shore hit 11-6, though he was the only competitor in the field.

Long jump: Fitzgerald’s Myron Hardy won the event with a distance of 20-9.

Region 19-2 (North Branch)

Lutheran North won the whole thing, placing first at the event. Armada finished in 10th, and Richmond placed 15th.

100 meters: Lutheran North’s Jack May finished in second with an 11.85 time.

200 meters: Mustangs dominated the event, with Will Haskins (23.91) and Isaac Miller (24.12) placing first and second.

1600 meters: Lutheran North’s Joshua Macri won the race by just 0.14 seconds over an OLSM competitor, timing in at 4:35.74.

3200 meters: Macri finished in second by less than a second at 10:05.61.

110m hurdles: Lutheran North’s Evan O’Brien finished in second with a 16.60 mark.

4×100 relay: Macomb County occupied the top two spots, with Lutheran North’s team of Jack May, Charles Bates, Will Haskins and Isaac Miller winning at 44.83 just ahead of Armada’s squad of TJ Seiler, Jackson Malburg, Anthony Alvarez and Jak Klee (44.83).

4×200 relay: Armada finished second here, too, with the same four runners in Seiler, Malburg, Alvarez and Klee, running a 1:33.08.

4×800 relay: Lutheran North finished in the top spot with Joshua Macri, Xavier Roman, Jack McMahon and Vasilios Kirchhoff running to a time of 8:31.76.

Shot put: Andrew Starrs of LHN finished second with a distance of 46-7.75.

Pole vault: LHN’s Kieran Whitlam leapt 13-0 for a first place finish.

Region 27-3 (Algonac)

Michigan Collegiate won the regional championship, beating out county foes Clintondale (seventh) and New Haven (12th).

100 meters: Despite finishing third and fourth, Michigan Collegiate’s Donte Fenderson (11.06) and Jacob Moore (11.22) qualified for states.

200 meters: DaJuan Woodley will represent Michigan Collegiate at states after a second-place finish at 22.46.

400 meters: MC’s Myron Mayberry finished second at 52.82.

3200 meters: New Haven’s Maxwell Durham ran away from the competition, with his 10:19.34 finish being nearly 20 seconds better than second place.

110m hurdles: Michigan Collegiate’s Tayden Redding (14.94) and Caleb Moore (14.96) placed second and third.

300m hurdles: Cougars finished 1-2: Redding (40.79) and Caleb Moore (41.64) blazed to more state qualifications.

4×100 relay: Michigan Collegiate won the race with speed via Patrick Baker, Donte Fenderson, Jacob Moore and DaJuan Woodley in 43.47.

4×200 relay: The Cougars won this one, too, with Lebron Hedwood, Baker, Fenderson and Woodley (1:32.62).

High jump: Redding won the event at 6-2, and his teammate, Myron Mayberry qualified in third place at 6-0.

Region 39-4 (Dryden)

Mt. Clemens took first place in the region, with Memphis placing eighth, Austin Catholic ninth and Parkway Christian 12th.

100 meters: Bathers Chris and Adrian Walker placed first and second at 11.01 and 11.32, respectively. Memphis’ Kai Fisher qualified at 11.40.

200 meters: Chris and Adrian Walker did it again here with times of 22.81 and 23.51.

400 meters: Chris Walker won a third-straight race with a time of 52.41. Memphis’ Kai Fisher also qualified, clocking a 54.16.

300m hurdles: Mt. Clemens’ Adrian Walker won the race in 41.75.

4×100 relay: The Bathers won the short relay with Cargill Wright, Chris Walker, Zaire Jackson and Richard Jackson collectively clocking a 45.09.

4×200 relay: Another Bathers win via Chris Walker, Adrion Donaldson, Richard Jackson and Zaire Jackson, they finished the race in 1:33.60.

Discus: Parkway Christian’s Jack Morrish’s distance of 101-00 earned him a second place finish.

High jump: Don Redding of Mt. Clemens tied for first.
