David J. Singleton, May 3, 1959 – September 19, 2024, was a lifelong resident of Santa Cruz, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, for David Singleton, known by friends as “Singlefin”. He was 65 years old.

David attended Branciforte Junior Highschool and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1977, where he participated in wrestling and football. He continued to attend the home games of the SCHS football team until his death. He was an avid Forty-Niner fan and enjoyed watching the games at neighborhood gatherings.

David inherited many hobbies and passions from his father, Jake, including motocross racing, camping, fishing, and spending time in the beauty of nature. He and Jake often rode the Roaring Camp Train from the Boardwalk and back.

His love of the water was manifest through his involvement with Santa Cruz Junior Guards, the local surf scene, waterskiing, the Santa Cruz Body Surfing Association, and helping with Operation Surf for disabled veterans. He was also well known for his daring stunts on a skateboard.

David was a great storyteller who was always ready to share his life through pictures, souvenirs, and mementos. He was a longtime resident of El Rio Mobile Home Park, where many of those mementos were proudly displayed.

David loved spending time with his friends, taking daily cruiser rides to the beach, and the sun on his back – board shorts were regular attire, no matter the weather.

David was an attendee of Hope Church, and spoke fondly of their program called, “Skate Church”. In his last years, he attended Gospel Community Church in Santa Cruz, where he enjoyed fellowship with his church family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Christina, and his siblings, Lynn and Aaron. He will be greatly missed by the friends and family he shared life with.

A memorial will be held at Santa Cruz Community Church, 411 Roxas Street, Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11 am. A celebration of life will follow in Aromas – details will be available at the memorial. Donations in David’s name can be made to any of the organizations he was involved with.
