With cold air overhead and low pressure tracking out of the Central Plains and up the Ohio River Valley, then eventually moving off the New England coast, heavy snow will fall along I-80 from Nebraska through the Chicago area on until it reaches the East Coast. Here, snowfall will begin in western and northern sections during the afternoon and spread over our area at night. Areawide, 4 to 8 inches is likely. And because a strong lake-effect is likely with gusty northeast winds, areas close to the lake — including Chicago — could add several inches onto that total before snow moves off to the east later Sunday.
Arctic-source cold air will settle into our area behind the departing low-pressure system, with highs on Sunday only in the teens and overnight lows Monday morning in the single digits to near zero in spots.
