Santa Cruz’s Tyler Gilbert, 30, a San Lorenzo Valley High alum, had his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

The left-handed pitcher was drafted by the Phillies out of USC in 2015. He pitched three years in MLB, all with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and made history by throwing a no-hitter in his first MLB start.

Gilbert, acquired by the Phillies in a minor league trade with Cincinnati on May 7, has made 27 relief appearances for Lehigh Valley this season and converted all seven of his save opportunities.

Gilbert posted a 4-0 record with a 2.06 ERA and 1.03 WHIP for IronPigs. Over 35 innings, he has given up eight earned runs while striking out 48 batters and walking six.

To make room for Gilbert on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips was optioned to Lehigh Valley and to make room for him on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Spencer Turnbull was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
