Dennis was born in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in Angels Camp and Hayward, California. He graduated from Mt. Eden High School, Hayward, CA in 1963. He then moved to San Jose, CA the next day. He started working plastering for two years. In 1965 he joined the Marines and served our country in Vietnam. He concluded his service and was honorably discharged in October of 1969. He then returned to his career of plastering.

Dennis was a plasterer for 40 years working for Daniel Smith Plastering and D.H. Smith Co. until retirement.

Upon retiring Dennis moved to Lincoln, CA. He lived in Sun City Senior community on the golf course where he loved to play golf. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and mentor to many young people.

Dennis was an amazing mentor to many. He helped guide his daughters through life. His nieces and nephews would say that their uncle was the person they could always go to to teach them hard work and make them smile. He will always be remembered through his many stories, jokes, and laughs he shared with everyone.

Dennis is survived by his wife Diane, daughters-Lindsay(Mike) Holcomb, LeAnne Smith, granddaughter- Emma Holcomb. Siblings-Daniel( Jean) Smith Jr., Marie Medeiros, Fred (Carol) Smith, Kenneth( Julie) Trout, Tim(Linda) Smith, Michelle(Manuel) Cruz and Douglas Arkin. His extended family-Joseph Guerrero, Mike(Brenda) Guerrero, Nancee Consos, Denise(Dave) Dalton. He had many nieces and nephews along with many friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Daniel Smith Sr. and mother Hellen Glasscock.

Inurnment to be held in Sunshine Gardens at Oak Hill on Thursday, September 26th at 11 am.
