Resident of San Jose

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Davis announces her passing on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 84.

Mary is predeceased by husband Edgar Davis, brother, Paul Pagan, brother-in-law, Robert Medeiros and parents, Lucas and Jennie Pagan. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: April (James) Hylton, Bud (Wendy) Davis, and Edward (Jill) Davis. Mary was blessed by her eight grandchildren: Jayme (Alberto) Calvo, Jessica Hylton (Mark Tavella), Joshua Hylton, Jonathan Davis, Jackson Davis, Makayla (Brett) Townsend, Jordan Davis, and Ryann Davis. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren: Marcella Calvo, Liliana Calvo, Gabriela Calvo, Aidan Gullo, Alberto Jr. Calvo, Millicynt Tavella, James Hylton, and Marco Tavella.

Mary, (known as Tiny or Aunt Tiny to many relatives), is also survived by her siblings, Alice Medeiros, Lydia (Bill) Gossett, Carol Pagan, George (Deanna) Pagan, and Michael (Paula) Pagan and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Hamakuapoko, Maui on March 28, 1940 to Lucas and Jennie Pagan. In 1958, at the age of 18, she moved to California, met and married Edgar, the love of her life and best friend in 1959. Sadly, Edgar passed away in 1992, at age 55, and Mary never remarried.

Mary kept active with a charitable social club, caring for children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and hosting numerous exchange students over the years. Her favorite paid job was working with students at Gunderson High School as an aide and in college counseling.

She loved gardening, sewing, painting, swim aerobics with her Aqua Babes swim group, cooking, entertaining and traveling the world. Mary also enjoyed researching the genealogy of her family, and her dogs Frankie and Lola were her special focus in her later years.

The family would also like to thank the caregivers and hospice team who assisted us in caring for Mary in her final days.

Mary Davis lived a large beautiful life and never met a stranger. She will always be our Maui Girl.

A funeral mass will be celebrated: October 11, 2024, 4:00 PM, St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 88 Race Street, San Jose, CA 95126. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a gift to Maui Strong Foundation to support the recovery of Mary’s beloved Lahaina or to the Gunderson High School Foundation for scholarships in her name would be appreciated.
