New homelessness bureau
This is a textbook example (May 25) of Los Angeles politics! Not thousands or millions, but billions of tax dollars have disappeared into our local Homeless Services Authority, and nobody will fess up to spending or taking it. The solution should not be another new layer of bureaucracy! I propose an alternate solution: Let’s look at the canceled checks and see who endorsed them, and then demand a detailed accounting of how the money was spent (or stolen). Give ’em a month to provide proof or be arrested for embezzlement. During that time, find out who approved the disbursements and look for kickbacks to determine if they should face charges as co-conspirators. See? No need for yet another level of unaccountable civil service lifers like the ones who created this mess.

Evs vs. gas-powered vehicles
While California arguably has the highest percentage of EV sales in the U.S. it certainly doesn’t mean that the general California public has bought into the 100% EV mandate issued by Gov. Newsom. In fact, neither the state nor the federal government have actually asked the public to express their opinion via a vote. It is assumed that the public wants nothing but EVs and that everyone believes in climate change. Why do we not question those assumptions? If EVs are so desirable, ask any auto dealer who sells gas and EV vehicles how many EVs they stock; not many. Ask automakers of gas and EV vehicles how many EVs they have sitting in their storage lots; a lot. Public demand, not mandates, will determine whether our future will ever be 100% electric vehicles. And our elected officials ought to listen to everyone about this issue, not just coastal elites who are not as impacted as the average Joe on the street.

Newsom no longer needs CEQA
Re “Newsom backs pro-housing legislation” (May 21):
Newsom had 15 years to champion California’s housing policy. With no longer needing California Environmental Quality Act donations to advance his political career, the editors are giving him credit. California is left in ruins due to the arrogance and sanctimonious attitude of the governor. Most Californians will be glad to see Gavin leave the state. A review of CEQA by the next governor should be undertaken immediately in order to remove the organization’s power.
