Resident of Richmond

It is with measureless sorrow and infinite regret we inform you of the passing of Janette Russey. Janette left us on February 27th, 2025.

Born at Richmond Hospital in the city of Richmond Janette became first an early Christmas present for her parents Dick and Vivian Peterson, and later, a fierce advocate for all things Richmond.

Graduate of Richmond High, tireless volunteer at the Richmond Museum of History, and Treasurer of many years for the Neighborhood Council of East Richmond Heights, Janette helped organize and support many Dimm St. neighborhood meetings, and was a key player in the 20 year run ofthe Dimm St block party.

She resided most of her life in Richmond, apart from a flirtation with El Cerrito that was fruitless and brief.

Janette retired from the Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley after many years in the business office Janette loved her dog Frisco, her husband Walt, her sisters, her lost brothers, her nieces and nephews and the many friends she acquired throughout her life.

She loved laughter, dinner parties, telling stories, listening to stories, music, poetry and laughter, backyard birds, acrobat squirrels, flowers, succulents, cheap white wine and laughter.

There will be a Celebration of Janette's Life On March 28 at 10:30am at Wilson and Kratzer 24th and Barrett in Richmond followed by a reception at the Berkeley Country club in (gasp!) El Cerrito. Please come. Raise a glass.

Have a bite. Swap some stories. And above all, Laugh.
