A DoorDash driver was arrested in Bloomfield Township for allegedly drawing his handgun from his waistband during a verbal altercation with a group of angry women outside a home where he had just made a delivery, officials said.

The group reportedly followed him as he retreated to his car, yelling at him, and he then displayed the gun, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

Andrew Gerard Boyer, 36, spent nearly three hours in the Oakland County Jail for a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in public, in connection with the alleged incident.

It happened last Friday in the 5000 block of Woodland Pass, where officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a weapon, police said. A verbal disagreement Boyer was having with the women reportedly had escalated, prompting him to pull out his gun, chamber a round and yell at the women to get away from him, police said.

Boyer was arrested, and the charge was issued the next day by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. At Boyer’s arraignment on Saturday, bond was set at $3,000.

Oakland County Jail records show he was released shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday.

State law prohibits waiving or presenting a weapon in a threatening manner except to defend oneself or someone else; law enforcement officers are exempt. As indicated by the charge, the prosecutor’s office didn’t consider Boyer’s alleged action to be self-defense.

Boyer’s next court appearance is pending. The crime is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $100 fine.
