Nine girls from Fairview’s and Mead’s lacrosse programs graced CHSAA’s all-state teams, with Mead’s Rachel Class nabbing the Class 4A coach of the year honors in her first season at the helm of the program. The Mavericks led the way with six selections in 4A, while the Knights enjoyed three in 5A.
Both teams bowed out in their respective state semifinals, as the Knights fell to Valor Christian by a 14-3 score and the Mavericks lost to Evergreen by a 16-10 mark.
All of Fairview’s selections enjoyed spots on 5A first team. Senior midfielder Lucy Michaels scored 31 goals with seven assists in her final season. She’ll head to Salisbury University next year. Senior defenders Katie Knowlton and Hope Ricci joined her, just as they’re about to head off to University of California, Berkeley and Bryant University, respectively. Knowlton led the Knights with 33 ground balls.
The Mavericks cast their net a little farther. Senior midfielder and Bucknell University commit Lucy Connors, who was named the BoCoPreps player of the year, naturally appeared on 4A first team thanks to her 113 goals, 33 assists and 105 draws won. Junior defender Payton Johnson threw her stick in the first-team ring as well.
Junior attacker Morgan Elson, who contributed 40 goals and 26 assists, headlined second team alongside senior defender Chase Sterling. Junior midfielder Emmy Tecu and junior goalie Sunny Wolver rounded out the local representation on honorable mention.
