Why the Buffs lost: Familiar shortcomings doomed the Buffs. CU committed 11 turnovers in the first half and surrendered seven offensive rebounds in the second half.

Three stars:

1. WVU’s Javon Small: The Big 12’s leading scorer was only 6-for-17 from the floor, but he went 10-for-12 at the free throw line before finishing with 26 points and seven assists.

2. CU’s Julian Hammond III: Went 8-for-8 on free throws and recorded a team-high 23 points.

3. WVU’s Joseph Yesefu: The former Washington State player gave the Mountaineers a huge spark, going 6-for-9 with a season-high 18 points.

Up next: The only winless teams within the Big 12, the 0-4 Buffs and Cincinnati, square off Wednesday night at the CU Events Center (7 p.m., ESPN+).
